“Ni hao! This is a leg and that is the other leg and there is something in between. You will have a baby boy. Congratulations!” Those were the words of Dr. Ben Chong Pun Chan of The Hong Kong Adventist Hospital.

My name is Maria Riza F. Montano and my husband is Victor Andrew Montano. And this is our story with Kato Repro Biotech Center.

We have been married for more than two years which we can say is full of colorful adventures. However, too much travel made our bodies weary and tired that no matter how hard we tried to have a child within the past two years, we just could not get it done. It was January 2012 when my husband decided to seek professional help from the medical world to determine what’s missing.

At first, we tried consultations with the local Chinese doctors here in Guangzhou City, China. It was smooth as they have modern technologies and equipment. However, communication was difficult if not almost impossible to understand even if they had a translator. So we decided to go back home to The Philippines and have our work-up there. April came and we were in the Philippines. My monthly period was due on April 24 and we still have time to fly to Bicol and spend the holy week with our parents. Our first night in Bicol was laid back. After dinner, we watched the evening news hoping to catch up on what’s happening around the Philippines. That was when we happen to see and hear the interview with Dr. Richie Mendiola about the newly opened Kato Repro Biotech Center in Makati. At that instant, we smiled and decided to give it a try since Makati is nearer to our small abode in Alabang as compared to flying back to Cebu. We made a phone call to the clinic and made an appointment right after the holy week.

We met Dr. Richie Mendiola for the first time and it would be a lasting impression. He was so friendly in a professional manner and accommodating to all our questions.

The Kato clinical team members were enthusiastic, very polite and extremely helpful. The entire Kato Repro Biotech Center was very impressive from the design and comfort which makes you feel relaxed and comfortable. It is also very clean. A smile could be seen on our faces as we both felt we made the right choice of coming to Kato Repro Biotech Center. The first embryo transfer we had didn’t succeed as we continued with our hectic work ethics. Dr. Richie Mendiola took time to carefully to explain why the first procedure did not succeed. Along with him was his Japanese Embryologist. We were saddened by the news that the implantation did not result to pregnancy. But that did not stop us. It took us only a few minutes to schedule for another round of embryo transfer. This time around, we were prepared. All work schedule were cancelled and we just rested and relaxed until June 11 2012 when we had the 2nd round of implantation. On June 18th 2012, we went to Kato Repro Biotech Center with high hopes for good news but at the same time we were also nervous and anxious. It was a very tense moment while we were seated in the lounge area of Kato Repro Biotech center waiting for the moment to speak with Dr. Richie Mendiola. Then, our names were called and inside the consultation room was Dr. Richie Mendiola seated alone with a big smile on his face. “Congratulations, you’re positive. You are 2 weeks pregnant”. Gosh….! My face showed a big smile and tears were forming in my eyes. I looked at my husband whose face did not show any immediate reaction but deep inside him was a victory dance of joy and triumph.

Our first child is due to arrive in this world on the 25th of February 2013. We are all very excited especially our parents since our child will be their grandchild from their children who are both the eldest. We are very grateful to KRBC for the wonderful experience they have provided in making our dream of having a child a reality.

But most of all, we thank the Lord God Almighty for everything.
